Sunday Sunday Sundaaaaay!

I'm supposed to be sifting through blogs with linkys to add to my linky list. Instead my BFF (that's right, I did that) back home brought my attention to the One Million Moms boycott against JCPenney for hiring Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson, and to the Shop-In planned for this Sunday at a JCPenney near you to show your support for Ellen and the department store's choice in representatives.

Now, I don't want to make this blog about politics, or controversial issues. But this is uncalled for.

One Million Moms claims that JCPenney will lose a majority of its customer base by supporting "gays". I say that's absolute crap. A surefire way to get someone to do something is to tell them they won't do it, especially when you tell them they won't do it because of assumptions you're making on their personal beliefs. Ok, fine, I haven't shopped at Penney's in ages, mostly because I have children and I prefer to shop online. BUT. Tell me I'm not going to buy there because they hired a gay woman to represent their company? You bet your bum I'm going to be there Sunday morning (I already had a sitter, yes!), camera phone in hand, hashtags at the ready!

I mean, c'mon, even Bill O'Reilly supports JCPenney's move. If Bill O'Reilly is OK with it you hate mongers must really be out of line.

This is a quote from Ellen reported by ABC News, "... Here are the values I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need.”

If you can't agree with that then you frankly aren't an American, and are probably a crap human being. There. I said it.

The Shop-In was initiated by Tracey Gaughran-Perez, with help from Doug French. To see the Twitter feed that led up to the Shop-In, visit Tracey's blog at You can join the event at the JCPenney Shop-In Facebook event page here. You can also sign a petition thanking JCPenney for sticking by their decision here at

So. Everyone. I'll meet you at Penney's on Sunday! Take a picture of yourself shopping and post it to your social media drug of choice with the hashtag #jcpshopin!

  1. . Although your blog is not political and you wouldn't want to alienate anyone in their beliefs or opinions, this issue is appalling and needs to be addressed, most specifically by moms. It's insulting that this group hides their hate behind the title of "mother." Numbers don't lie, and whether you think it's a choice or someone is born gay, 1 in 4 Americans are gay. I'm no mathematician but one million moms... That's at least one million offsprings... What are the odds a couple of them will be shopping with us Sunday?

  2. Thanks for posting this Savannah, I had briefly heard about this but didn't take much time to read til now. Ellen's quote is awesome and one I wish more people lived by. I prob won't be doing the shop in because I don't have a sitter lol but I did share this message on my blog also.

Leaving your two cents is encouraged! Look forward to hearing from you!
