Aloha Friday! 6/22

Welcome to Aloha Friday! It's a weekly blog event that started at An Island Life where I ask a simple question, answer it, then invite you to answer it also!

Definitely getting this one out a little late, but better late than never!

This one's kind of random but do you do volunteer work? That is this weeks question! I love volunteering, but with school and kids I didn't have the time. Now that I'm not in school though, and Mr. Eight has been on a day shift (more importantly), we've started volunteering at the local SPCA. I just wish it was closer, it's about a 35 minute drive out.

When I was at DLI in Monterey I volunteered at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for over a year. It was so much fun. I love the ocean and marine biology, I even had to take a 9 week course to qualify, it was great!

So, what's your take on volunteering?

  1. I remember as a kid volunteering to clean an orphanage garden once a week with my cousins. It was really an easy activity with the group work and we really did feel good to be helping others.
I need to start doing this again and getting my own kids involved.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Wow! That has got to be an ultimate volunteer job, lots of good karma to be had in a garden for orphans! I'm sure that was really really rewarding. When I was a kid we always did the Creek Cleanup every year with my dad. We'd go out with trash bags and clean up the local bodies of water, it was a nice bonding experience :) I hope to do things like this with my kids some day too!

  2. I don't volunteer much, but I do work for a woman who runs special needs programs for kids so I do sometimes volunteer for her when I'm not working for her.

  3. I love volunteering, but sometimes I feel so inadequate about it, but afterwards it feels so rewarding :)

    Happy weekend.
