3 Things I Do When I Feel Like Crap

Sometimes I just feel like crap. Normally it's because I've had a hard day with the kids but lately it's been more likely that we've eaten out too many times and my body is hating me. 


Not only do I feel sluggish, but I get moody too. Does feeling like crap make anyone happy? I didn't think so. Today was one of those days. I took the kids to the neighbors for a playdate this morning and didn't even feel like socializing! I let the kids play a little and then just took them home. Bleh. 


As soon as I got home I started thinking about what I needed to do to feel better. I came up with these 3 things that really brighten my day. Now this isn't a list of spa treatments or baked goods, but it works for me. So hang in there. 


1. Workout






Get up, dance, do an exercise DVD, run the kids around the playground, or do like I did this afternoon: get a sitter and go to a kickboxing class. Wow what a workout! I probably burned 800 calories at least. I felt fantastic afterwards. I felt strong, energized, and like I earned the brownie I bought from the little girl at the lemonade stand on the way home ;) (Hey, I said this was a list of things to make you feel better, not make you skinny!)


2. Make a healthy meal choice/Drink water. 




I kind of feel like these go together. Or they should anyway. And yeah, maybe this contradicts my previous note about the brownie, but the thing was like 2 inches square. Fire me. Anyway, I was going to have some crap lunch like Top Ramen but two fortunate things happened: First, I couldn't find the pack of Top Ramen I had bought specifically for this craving, and second my friend talked me out of it (thanks!). So instead the hubster picked me up a 6-inch sub. I even got flatbread!


3. Clean. 






Yeah, when you're feeling all "Blah" and "Meh" you probably want to jump up and clean as much as you want to do jumping jacks, but the payoff is so worth it. Visualize that clean sparkling kitchen the way you should be visualizing those skinny jeans. Now, I'm not saying that a dirty house causes depression, or that a clean house can permanently pull you out of a slump, but when did a clean house ever make you cry? Never! Even just wiping down the kitchen counters made me feel better. And here's a tip, hopefully it works for you like it works for me, I find that just cleaning up the floor will make you feel a million times better. Throw the toys in a box and vacuum your living room, it only takes about 15 minutes and the place will look 15 million times better!  


Well I hope these help someone out there in the ether. Mostly this will serve as a reminder for when I'm down it's too early for a drink (11:30 AM is where I draw the line).

  1. I hear ya on the workin out and feeling healthy, wish I felt the same about the cleaning. Props to you for having the motivation to get yourself out of the Bleh's!

    1. Thanks! The cleaning is pretty hard to get started on. I just try not to think about it too much, because then i talk myself out of it haha!

  3. I clean while I listen to music and dance, so then I can combine a few of my favorites with something I don't really enjoy...lol! Sure makes cleaning a lot less boring!
