Fall Decorating with Dried Beans: Cheap, Easy, Cute!

I saw this post from last fall at My Heart's Desire and thought what an awesome idea! For reasons I won't get into I have an exorbitant amount of dried beans, so this was perfect for me. I picked up these tall vases at Walmart for around $4 each (if you live on the mainland you should be able to find them for cheaper) and a bag of cheap popcorn kernels for about $1.50. Everything else I had on hand. Even so, a few bags of beans should only set you back a couple bucks!

From the top down is: black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, popcorn kernels, and green lentils.

I played around stacking the bags on top of one another until I found a color scheme I liked. I love the colors!

I grabbed a cheap bag of raffia too and mixed up the green and yellow. I gave up on a bow and just went for a knot.

That's it! Pour the beans in one color at a time and then decorate with a bit of twine or raffia. This project is so simple, you can really play around with it!

The beans also gave me an idea for where I keep my spatulas and spoons. I use a vase that used to have some really ugly beads in it. I love this mix of black eyed peas and pinto beans!

Easy peasy! If you give this a try let me know! I'd love to hear about your adaptation!

  1. I'm going to try this! I have a ton of vases that I was saving for decorations, but I didn't know what I was going to do exactly. Thanks for sharing! I'll let you know how this turns out!

  2. These are beautiful! I am going to make some this weekend, thanks for the idea!

  3. this is so pretty! I definitely need to make some of these for my tables!

  4. I do love these if only I could get the rest of the junk off my tables!

Leaving your two cents is encouraged! Look forward to hearing from you!
